Vintage Japanese scarves, some featuring extensive shibori work. These are actually vintage obi accessories known as "Obiage". Most obiage are deep red, but obiage come in a variety of colors, predominantly red, green, pink, and white. I seldom see blue or purple....Anyhow, obiage are traditionally tied at the top edge of the obi.
Note the dazzling shibori work depicting cranes, plum blossoms, bamboo, pine trees, and even the Matsunaga Kamon 😊
Obiage had been a favorite plaything of my childhood - gossamer silks that seemed accoutrements of faraway princesses. I am happy to offer these for sale in my booth alongside kimonos! Like the kimonos, the obiage are vintage items seeking new homes on our distant shores.
